Bioalgostral contributes to Reunion’s quest for energy autonomy
Reunion is strongly oriented toward sustainable development in order to find alternate solutions to the use of fossil fuels and has accepted the challenge of attaining energy autonomy near or about 2030. Innovation is encouraged by the determination shared by the national government, the department, the elected officials and the vital economic forces of our island to make Reunion, not just a sanctuary, but rather an international model of sustainable development.
Bioalgostol wishes to contribute to this “green revolution.” Its ambition is to produce a third generation bio-fuel. This sector of activity and research makes it possible to offer concrete solutions to the fundamental issue of Reunion’s energy autonomy.
Created in 2008, a young and innovative company, Bioalgostrol, has chosen to specialise in techniques relative to micro-algae cultures; their industrial potential in terms of applications tied to energy, health, food and environment being of particular interest.
The research directed by Dr. HDR Gabin Treboux, consists in the sustainable production of micro-algae in the primary intention of putting the bio-mass to use in energy production. It should be noted that analysis of criteria determined by worldwide research in regard to the optimisation of cultures, places Reunion among the best possible potential production sites in the world.
The technology developed by Bioalgostrol aims at sustainable and economically viable production of micro-algae based on the utilisation of a production unit coupled with a water treatment plant and a bio-gas digester. The process extracts the nutrition contained in untreated waters and fixes CO2 emitted by the production unit, without causing pollution or degrading the natural milieu.
Bioalgostrol was chosen as Rand D project supported by TEMERGIE.
